User Overrides - Setting Extra Quiz/Exam Time for Individual Students Video:

Setting Extra Time for Individual Students

The 'User override' feature allows you to grant individual students additional time on a quiz. When setting extra quiz time for individual students, you will need to be sure that the override time limit does not exceed the quiz's end date and time. Once the end date and time have elapsed, quiz attempts will automatically close, even for those students who were granted an extended time limit. With this in mind, if your test-taking window is narrow, you may also need to extend the quiz's end date and time for any students receiving an extended time limit. This will ensure they receive adequate time for to complete their quiz attempt.

To set extra time for individual students:

  1. From your course home page, click on the desired quiz.
  2. On your Administration block, click to expand 'Quiz administration,' and select 'User overrides.'
  3. Click 'Add user override.' Please note, when the override screen appears, the 'Search' and 'Require password' fields occasionally auto-fill with your username and password. Make sure to delete these entries before proceeding.
  4. In the search box, enter the name of the student who requires a user override.
  5. Check the 'Enable' box next to 'Time limit' and set or modify the time limit this student will receive.
  6. If necessary, adjust the number of attempts allowed. Each student has one attempt to begin with. To allow for a second attempt, you will need to select "2" from the 'Attempts allowed' dropdown menu.
  7. If you want to set or adjust the quiz deadline, check 'Enable' and adjust the open and close dates as necessary to ensure the student receives adequate time to complete their extended attempt.
  8. Once your changes are complete, click 'Save.'
