Changing Default Quiz Settings


When modifying an existing quiz, any of the default settings can be adjusted per your preference. Quiz settings can be accessed with the following steps:

  1. Click your quiz from your course home page.
  2. Click the 'Administration' block (typically located on the top-left corner of your screen).
  3. Click 'Edit settings.'

To enable a time limit on a quiz:

  1. Click to expand the 'Timing' pane.
  2. Check 'Enable' to the right of the 'Time limit' field.
  3. Adjust how much time students will have to complete the quiz.
  4. Once your changes are complete, click 'Save and return to course.' Please note, adjustments made to time limits will be applied to any open attempts in progress.

To allow multiple attempts on a quiz: 

  1. Click to expand the 'Grade' pane.
  2. From the 'Attempts allowed' dropdown menu, select the number of allowed attempts.
  3. If necessary, change the 'Grading method,' which determines how grades are recorded for multiple attempts. You may choose to record the first or last quiz attempt, an average of the attempts, or the highest-scored attempt.
  4. Once your changes are complete, click 'Save and return to course.'

To require a password for a quiz:

  1. Click to expand the 'Extra restrictions on attempts' pane.
  2. In the 'Require password' field, enter your desired password.
  3. Once your changes are complete, click 'Save and return to course.'

To defer answer feedback until after an attempt is submitted:

  1. Click to expand the 'Question behavior' pane.
  2. From the 'How questions behave' dropdown menu, select 'Deferred feedback.' Students will now see their answer feedback after they have submitted their attempt.
  3. Once your changes are complete, click 'Save and return to course.'
