Allowing Another Attempt on Written Assignments

To allow a single student another attempt on a written assignment:

  1. Enter an assignment’s submissions table by:
    • Selecting the assignment from your gradebook
      OR
    • Selecting the assignment from your course homepage and selecting 'View all submissions'
  2. Select 'Allow another attempt' from the 'Edit' dropdown menu to the right of the student’s name. The page will refresh and automatically save your selection.
  3. If the deadline for this assignment has passed, you will also need to grant an extension.
  4. If an overridden grade has been entered for this student's assignment, it must be removed before they can reattempt it. Otherwise, the gradebook will continue to display the locked overridden grade.

You can also allow another attempt for individual students directly from the grading window during the grading process. For more information, please see here.

To allow multiple students additional attempts on a written assignment:

  1. Enter an assignment’s submissions table by:
    • Selecting the assignment from your gradebook
      OR
    • Selecting the assignment from your course homepage and selecting 'View all submissions'
  2. Select the desired students by clicking the check boxes to the left of their names.
  3. From the 'With selected…' dropdown menu below the submissions table, select 'Allow another attempt,' and click 'Go.'
  4. If the deadline for this assignment has passed, you will also need to grant an extension.
  5. If an overridden grade has been entered for this student's assignment, it must be removed before they can reattempt it. Otherwise, the gradebook will continue to display the locked overridden grade.
