Respondus LockDown Browser - 'A Required Parameter is Missing'

If you encounter the 'A required parameter is missing' message when attempting a quiz/exam using the Respondus Lockdown Browser, please note that this is likely due to a slower internet connection (about 0.5 MBps) or a prolonged period of inactivity (about forty seconds or more). When experiencing a slower connection, we do not recommend clicking 'Submit' multiple times as this may increase your chances of receiving this message. 

If you encounter the 'A required parameter is missing' message, please try closing out of Respondus Lockdown Browser, accessing your course quiz again, and relaunching Respondus. If the time limit for your quiz has not expired, you should be able to resume your attempt using the 'Continue the last attempt' option. If you do not see this option, this may indicate that your quiz has timed out. Additionally, below are some general tips for success when using the Respondus Lockdown Browser:

  • Respondus Lockdown Browser requires a strong and stable internet connection for the successful use of the application. If stability is a concern or connection speed is slower, it is best to position yourself as close to your Wi-Fi router as possible to ensure that your connection remains stable and uninterrupted.
  • To ensure optimal Respondus LockDown Browser performance, it is strongly recommended that you shut down ALL applications (other than the browser window you are using to access your course) prior to starting the Respondus LockDown browser session. If you were running other applications while taking quizzes in Respondus LockDown Browser and you experienced any problems, you can try shutting down all applications and re-launch the quiz to see if this resolves this issue for you.
  • Once you have begun your quiz/exam attempt in the Respondus application, you will be unable to access any of the course content pages from another device. The course site only one session per user account. If you attempt to sign in from another device, you will be logged out of the original device you were using to complete your quiz/exam resulting in a loss of connection to the quiz/exam.
